I just read an article on ONTD about the Backstreet Boys doing an Old Navy commercial. I never thought I would ever hear anything about them again after they died off. I liked the Backstreet Boys back in the day. N Sync and 98 Degrees, too. I wasn't a huge boy band fanatic, but I did like them. I saw N Sync in concert 2 times. I always think I liked BSB better, though. My sister was the bigger N Sync fan. And even though I was only about 6, I was a huge New Kids On The Block fan, too. Had everything under the sun- posters, pins, dolls, shirts, towels, bedsheets, you name it.
And when I look at the girls today who love One Direction and stuff, it really isn't that much different. And at the same time, it's an entirely different world. Now we have social media. All the information I got on the boy bands of my day were through magazines, TVs, and books. Now fans can actually follow them on Twitter and everything. But the thing I wonder the most- did the fans of past boy bands act like the ones nowadays? I don't know, because we didn't have internet access and social media access like now. Were they as vicious? Did they rip apart members of the band, anyone acquainted with the band, significant others, nonfans, each other?
I honestly have never seen anything like One Direction and Justin Bieber fans. I don't which one is worse, although I'm leaning towards One Direction fans. I've come across some decent ones. I like a lot of the fans on ONTD. Some of their comments are hilarious, especially this one member who really REALLY likes Zayn. But these other ones....I don't understand how you can say you are a fan of a group, and then sit there and rip members of the group apart. No one says you have to like every member, but how can you say you are a fan and then hurl homophobic and/or racist insults or wish God would kill a member (yes, I have actually seen this)?
I probably shouldn't have laughed as hard as I did at that one Tweet in
the link provided above that says "God please kill @Louis_Tomlinson for
me". It really isn't funny.
And even the fans themselves are turning on each other. It's nuts. I read an article the other day about Louis (god, sad that I actually know all of their names) throwing a temper tantrum on Twitter about the whole Larry thing and I think he may have singled out one particular girl and now that girl supposedly is getting death threats from fans. What is wrong with these kids? I have never seen such hatred come from people like these kids. Except psychopaths. If I am having a bad case of feeling really batty, I just have to visit a 1D forum and I automatically feel sane again.
And look, I can't blame him for his frustration with some of the abuse he gets, but Louis is such a fucking drama queen. It honestly would not ever surprise me if he turned out to be the gay one. There is something about his mannerism, something I cannot put my finger on, that tells me to not ever be surprised if he comes out. And I know I am horribly stereotyping here, but he acts just like every bitchy gay guy I have ever been acquainted with. He needs to just stand there and look pretty, because frankly, he is the only one I can fantasize about sexually, even though he reminds me of something I would have walked into my first day of gym class in elementary school. He looks like a gym teacher. A female one!
I finally got to try Five Guys and honestly, I expected a lot more. Everyone I know raves like maniacs about their burgers, and I guess if you like fast food burgers, I could see how these would be considered OMG SO AWESOME. I generally don't like fast food burgers. Once in a while I might get one at BK, but generally I stick with chicken. It was good, but I still prefer burgers from places like Friday's and Longhorn. Those two are still the best bacon cheeseburgers I have ever had.
I bitched about going to that party on Saturday, but it ended up not being that bad (I still would have much rather have been in NYC, though). It was a gorgeous day and yes, there had been plenty of good food. Too many yellow jackets, though. And the most shocking part of the day was I wasn't the first one to start complaining that I wanted to go home. Generally I'm always the first one to start bitching that I want to go home.
My cousin's husband happened to mention at the party about his mancave. Ugh, I am so sick of that term! My brother-in-law has one. Practically every man seems to have one. And someone in this forum worded it perfectly: "The phrase "man cave" makes my skin crawl. It just brings to mind so many of the most irritating male stereotypes."
